Semaphore Sea Glass is our small family-owned 'market-stall' business, designing and hand-crafting GENUINE Sea Glass jewellery, using only .925 Sterling Silver, Fine Silver and Recycled Silver (unless specifically stated). Our Recycled Silver comes from the Silver off-cuts and scraps that occur during the jewellery making process and is therefore also .925 Silver or above.
We do NOT have our own shop, but we do have a workshop local to Semaphore South, a suburb of Metroplitan Adeliade, South Australia.
Our pieces are primarily available for purchase at local markets, but between markets our remaining stock is available for purchase at The Port Adelaide Visitor Information Centre in Port Adelaide, or you can also contact us directly to discuss availability of items previously seen, whether that be from a previous market, a photo on this website, or from a post on our socials (see the 'Where To Buy' tab).
What is Sea Glass?
Sea Glass is the name given to individual 'beach-found' glass fragments that have, at a point in time, found their way into the sea, whether this be from Ship-Wrecks, Coastal Glass Factories, or even coastal rubbish dumps from the 1800's!!
Genuine Sea Glass will ONLY ever have been ocean-tumbled! Worn down, frosted and smoothed by Mother-Nature, over many, many years and generations, beached on the sand and rocks, bathed in the heat of the sun, sandblasted in the wind, and washed out again to sea to do it all again.
All Sea Glass used in our jewellery is 100% Genuine! This means our smoothed frosted 'glass gems' are repurposed exactly* as found from the beach - ocean tumbled, NEVER machine tumbled! (*all pieces are washed and sanitised prior to use, and some have holes drilled of course).
These beautiful, unique, aged pieces of glass have NOT been purposefully smashed, machine tumbled, cut, altered, reshaped or smoothed in any way, other than by the ocean itself and the beach sand being blasted by the wind. They have simply been found on the beach, cherished exactly as they are, sourced from Adelaide's pristine metropolitan beaches and the beautiful South Australian coastline!
So you can imagine the time and effort it takes to find pieces of Sea Glass that compliment each other, especially in the design of earrings and bracelets.
The Creator
Anna is the Designer and Creator behind the entire Semaphore Sea Glass Jewellery Collection employing exceptional self-taught 'Jewellery Making' and 'Silver-Smithing' skills.
Through Anna's artistic talent, unique designs unfold, capturing intricate wire-work, Bale designs, Glass settings, and more, to then transform these beautiful, unique, reclaimed, repurposed 'gems', through such 'Silver-Smithing' creativity, into exceptional, stunning and elegant handmade earrings, pendants, rings, bangles, bracelets - the list continues to grow!
The Gatherer
Phil is the keen eyed Seaglass Beachcomber! We only use GENUINE Sea Glass, which is almost entirely sourced from Adelaide's pristine beaches and the local South Australian coastline. Exceptions to this rule are for very limited, clearly advertised, exclusives, for very special pieces from around The World, that have been personally collected, or donated directly by Individuals known to us!
You'll often find Phil on a local beach in his Semaphore Sea Glass Livery, hunting for Sea Glass. If you see him, go up and say Hi!
